The Institute offers 2 years Diploma course in elementary education (D.El.Ed) for both pre service and in service teachers. Issue of forms and admission to the course is usually done between June to July every year. To be eligible for the course, a pre service trainee has to be Class 12 passed with 45 percentage marks and above and should not be above 28 years of age. In-service Trainees are deputed from the Directorate of School Nagaland.

The syllabus for the course is as per the guidelines and Draft syllabus of National Council of Teacher (NCTE).
